Black Bear Hunting Tips and Strategies
Some popular strategies for hunting black bear are to spot and stalk, predator calling or to
bait and hunt them from a tree stand.  When spotting and stalking a bear, make sure you
stay downwind when you are trying to get into a position to take a shot.  Bears have an
excellent sense of smell and they will pick up your smell if you don't stay downwind of
them.  Many hunters prefer predator calling to hunt black bear.  The only problem with this
method is that you can end up calling a lot of other animals nearby as well.  Baiting them,
where it is legal, is one of the best methods for taking a black bear.  Start baiting them by
placing food in a pit upwind of your tree stand.  Try putting some sweet corn, meat,
scraps, watermelon, honey and other tasty treats in the pit daily for a couple of weeks
before hunting season begins.  Once hunting season arrives, set yourself up in your tree
stand early in the afternoon and wait until the evening and you should see a bear coming
in for its dinner.
